Drivers could be fined for having a messy car so just arrest me now officer

If you're that one friend with the messy car, you're in trouble.

Drivers in the UK are being warned that their messy car could land them with fines, and we feel personally attacked.

You might as well just arrest us now.

While the rule doesn't specifically state that your car can't be a tip - if it becomes too cluttered or filthy that it poses a potential risk to your ability to drive then you might be in trouble.

It's not just the old KFC boxes and half-filled pump bottles that cover your floor, it covers the overall cleanliness, meaning your windscreen, mirrors, and number plate have to be squeaky clean.

If you need me, I'll just be staying at home because anything is easier than facing the mess that is my car.

If you're in the UK and found to be driving without due care and attention, police can give you an NZD $192 on-the-spot fine and three penalty points on your license. If it's a more serious case, you could end up hauled before the courts where you'll face an NZD $4819 fine or even a driving ban.

Jamie Louram, a car cleaning buyer, told the Express, "Whilst there is no fine for having a messy interior, clutter if bad enough can also fall under the careless driving rule leading to a fine of up to £100."

"As a general rule, keep your car clutter-free to avoid any dangerous situations such as things getting stuck under the brake pedal or blocking your view."

Luckily for us, the rule currently only applies to those in the UK, although this makes us scared that it won't be long until it hits our shores...

We may just have enough time to get started on the cleanup before the rules arrive here then...😬
