Our Black Ferns have been sent off to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in the proper Kiwi way – with a hearty haka and dance party.
In a TikTok video that’s gone viral for being peak vibes, the students at Manurewa Intermediate perform a powerful haka for the wāhine set to compete over in England in just under two weeks' time.
Hundreds of tamariki put their all into making it a special moment for our women’s rugby side, with their small yet mighty voices booming around the room.
The celebrations didn’t end there. Another clip shows an afternoon full of singing, dancing, and words of encouragement for the ladies to take with them as they head into their first match against Spain on the 25th of August.
“We are so proud of you,” a school representative can be heard saying in the video. “We wish you the very best.”
“Soak this all in, appreciate how far you’ve come, and celebrate every moment. Remember you have all of us back home cheering you on every single step of the way,” they added.
“What a send-off! 🎉🙌🏽 Ngā mihi nui to the incredible crew at Manurewa Intermediate for such an awesome afternoon. Next stop - Rugby World Cup!” the team wrote in another post with pics from the day.
Black Ferns prop Chryss Viliko told media the afternoon spent at the school was “really special.”
“The atmosphere was amazing, the kids were amazing, and it was just a special moment to be a part of before we depart.”
The Black Ferns head into this year’s Rugby World Cup having already won the trophy six times before.
No doubt they can pull it off again and bring home a seventh – good luck, wāhine, we’ll be watching.
