'Is Bluey's dad hot?': Sharyn Casey on life, goss and her new podcast

She's back and about to bring us 'A Little Bit Extra'!

Been missing Shaz? Us too! Luckily she's back and she chatted with us about what's new in her life, including her latest podcast.

‘A Little Bit Extra’ is almost here to bring you a twice-weekly dose of all the hottest pop culture goodness, and all the juicy recaps you didn’t know you needed.

Expect celebrity gossip you won't hear anywhere else, smutty book recs you’ll want on your nightstand, unfiltered interviews, pop culture hot takes, and a peek into Sharyn's wild life.

It’s like the ultimate group chat with your mates, where nothing is off limits and the goss can sometimes get a little out-the-gate.

Before she invites you to have some fun and “escape the sh*t show that is planet earth rn”, we thought we should catch up with Aunty Shaz and find out what’s been going on since we last heard from her.

Firstly, how the heck are you? What's life looking like these days?

I’m good, 2025 has been a rollercoaster of fun, grief, learning, self-discovery and a lot of smutty books!

I’ve been trying different things and working with a bunch of people doing radio on-air coaching and also non-radio jobs, which has been really awesome to use my brain in a different way - trying to learn to work smarter, not harder.

It’s a strange thing to have spent your whole adult life doing one thing and then realising the other things you can do, although looking at real-life jobs was a wake-up call that I have zero qualifications, haha.

I’ve also been studying Te Reo Māori, which has been fascinating, beautiful and such a privilege!

Since we last heard from you, what’s the most ridiculous thing or spesh thing that’s happened to you?

I got to interview Maren Morris, who is part of my Top 3 musicians, she was so awesome and I can’t wait to see her live!

The worst part, though, was that I didn’t realise Maren had joined the Zoom call because my screen wasn’t working, so she witnessed my freak out of excitement.

She was absolutely amazing and put up with telling her every single song of hers that was the soundtrack to my life.

What made you want to start the 'A Little Bit Extra' podcast?

The world is a shit show, and I find myself reaching for escapes through podcasts to take my mind to somewhere I don’t have to think too hard, can have a laugh, cry or just the company while I drive from A to B.

I also love Pop culture, and I get into these big discussions in my Insta DMs, so to do a podcast on it felt right.

Apart from a full-time job pay day, that’s the biggest thing I miss from working on The Edge.

What's a celebrity moment you're not going to bite your tongue about right now? No filters, please.

So many things are going on! I’ve lost A LOT of time watching and reading the relationship between Jojo Siwa and Chris Hughes, watching it unfold on ‘Celebrity Big Brother UK’ - the aftermath and now the love story has been fascinating.

The Diddy trial made me feel physically sick. I was in awe of Cassie and her strength, esp at full-term pregnancy, to relive all of that, and I’m fuming he was found not guilty on so many charges.

I’ve also been engaging in a lot of conversations about whether or not it’s weird to find Bluey’s Dad hot… but we’ll get into that on the pod.

What are your current guilty pleasures/things you want to cancel?

There are so many good telly shows at the moment, I hate watching the new season of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, but I’m furious with Belly and wish that Jeremiah and Conrad would both move on.

‘The Valley’ on Hayu is a good ol’ dirty reality TV watch; the drama is crazy.

It would be my dream to buy and look cool in a leather bomber jacket. I’ve just ordered a cheapie and really hoping it works for me. I’m so jealous of people who nail an oversized look.

Who's your dream podcast guest? (and please, don't answer like JoJo Siwa did)

To be honest, Jojo Siwa… LOL!! I can’t help but love her, even though she can be annoying to some. I find her really intriguing, and her positive vibes are unmatched. I feel like I’d end up wanting to be her best friend.

Also, Alex Cooper from ‘Call Her Daddy’. She’s interviewed all the big dogs in entertainment. I want the dirt & to find out how it works when she had to ask people the controversial questions, if it’s pre-planned, etc.

What's a subject you've been doing deeply unnecessary deep dives on lately?

Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams' dating history - I’ve watched so many breakdowns on their relationship, videos of him singing in the crowd (I watched him nonstop at her NZ show), the lyrical breakdowns of songs about him, seeing them wasted at festivals all lovey dovey… I need to get a life!

What can we expect from 'A Little Bit Extra'?

Pop culture, chaos, weird banter, interviews, laughs, cries, everything but most of all, something fun you don’t have to think too deeply about, so you can escape for a bit and put everything else on hold for a bit.

Finally, have you got a smutty book recommendation for us to keep us busy until the pod launches?

The ‘PUCKING’ series - it’s full-on though, so you have been warned! It’s the first time I’ve ever been out smutted by a book before and I needed a break afterwards.

If you’re new to it, go see Ruby at Enamoured Books in Auckland, she’s so good at matching your taste to books and all her books are romance.

Keep up to date with the latest from Sharyn on Insta, and catch ‘A Little Bit Extra’ from August 19th on rova.
