What the F does Netflix's percentages next to shows and movies actually mean?

We've spent hours scrolling Netflix for what to watch, but have you ever looked at the percentages?

We've all been there. Putting on Netflix to just watch something, anything, and three hours later, you're still scrolling trying to pick something.

To make that decision easier, Netflix introduced the percentages you've no doubt seen as you hover over the movie or show title.

But what does it actually mean?

The rating is created by an algorithm, which based off everything else you've been watching, figures out what else you'd be keen to binge-watch.

"The percentage next to a title shows how close we think the match is for your specific profile." says Netflix on their website.

"The ratings you provide also help us recommend popular TV shows and movies on Netflix."

Honestly, I can say I've never rated anything on Netflix but tbh maybe now I should change that...

"To get better suggestions for TV shows and movies you might like, you can rate what you've watched with a thumbs up or thumbs down."
