Turns out the place where we usually store milk in the fridge is not recommended and apparently is not the best place for it.
Chris Beasley, from a home insurance company, revealed how you can organise your fridge to ensure your food lasts as long as possible.
Chris explained how milk could last longer if stored away from the fridge door.
"Door compartments are actually warmer than the rest of the fridge. If you find your milk isn't lasting very long, try storing it in the main storage area instead" he says.
Since sauces and condiments tend to have a longer shelf life, Chris said it is okay to let them be stored in the fridge's door compartment.
"Condiments and sauces tend to have a longer shelf life and don't need to be stored at a specific temperature in the fridge, so they will usually last okay in the door or on the top shelf".
He also recommends not stacking up and filling your fridge completely as too much food can lead to less space, so this prevents equal air circulation. This means some items may not get enough cold air as others.
"Stacking stuff on top of each other will prevent air circulating between your goods and cold air getting everywhere that it needs to. This means your fridge has to work harder and your food will go off quicker," he says.
Time to reorganize our fridges!
