Kiwis are selling discontinued Jaffas for mega bucks on TradeMe

Turns out red is the new gold.

The iconic Kiwi lolly is no longer rolling down our aisles, but could be rolling in some cash before it completely disappears.

ICYMI - Jaffas have officially been discontinued (again) in Aotearoa due to declining sales.

And of course, the second they were announced to be vanishing from shelves, people saw dollar signs.

Now, bags of Jaffas are being listed online for eye-watering prices, with most going for around $30 a pop.

But, as much as that's a stinger in itself - especially for LOVERS of the red shelled, orange choccie like myself - one TradeMe listing has a single bag up for grabs at a whopping $1,500.

Before you lose faith in humanity, this one’s for a good cause. The seller’s chucking all proceeds toward Men's Sheds NZ and the Rural Support Trust.

The seller wrote alongside their listing: “To any thousandaires out there- as quoted by the news, I’m “offering a chance to acquire a piece of New Zealand history, an heirloom to be passed down through generations." All things considered, this is a pretty sweet deal...

“Offers accepted, but no low balling - I know what I’ve got,” they added.

So it’s less cash grab, more clever charity move, for someone who’s got the spare cash.

That said, the opportunity to make yourself some moolah is clearly going. Another Kiwi is banking on the nostalgia-fuelled chaos, with a 2018 Cadbury-branded bag (before RJ’s took over) currently listed for $100.

That sweet bag could make them a whooping 2400% profit. And that’s on BUSINESS.

Whether you munched them at the movies, raced them down Dunedin’s Baldwin Street, or just kept a stash hidden from the rest of the fam for your sweet fix - Jaffas have always been one of those staple Kiwi treats that always hit the spot.

Now I’m not saying to panic buy the stuff (‘cause leave some for the rest of us), but if you’re not willing to cough up petrol money prices for a bag… then you’ll want to stock up on a few bags.

And who knows what they’ll be worth down the track?!
