Mr T knows how to get a dance floor pumping.
And by dance floor, I mean the common room at Braunstone Community School in Leicester, which absolutely goes off every Friday at 2 pm on the dot, thanks to their head teacher.
Not only is he clearly a bloody good teacher, he’s also very generous with his time, catching up with General Lee from George Breakfast this morning.
Halil Tamgumus, known as ‘Mr T’, created the tradition of a weekly rave for the students years ago, and it has become a very welcome part of the school’s routine.
"And it is the WHOLE school, no half measures.”
Mr T says the point is “to keep the endorphins going” and to keep “us all happy”. Although he does admit, “it was also a little bit strategic.”
Attendance numbers are looking pristine on Fridays, and I wonder why?
ITV News got a sneak peek at the ritual, and it is even better than you could imagine.
You can see Mr T walk through the hallway with ‘Friday’ by Nightcrawlers bumping on his massive speaker, and all the kids go crazy.
Then of course, he gets on a table, his hat slightly skewed sideways, as the kids around him bring the energy.
One of the students said that the second they hear the music, “we just rush out to dance… it gets us very hyper".
I’ve never been so jealous of an eight-year-old.
Mr T told Lee: “There is just something about dance music, where we’re all in one space together, we’re all feeling it at the same time.
It’s like nothing else, really.
The assistant head teacher spoke to ITV, and she said much the same: “This is why we’re in education, this is what we come to school for.”
The school has received a massive amount of attention since the vid went viral, and Mr T described it to Lee as a “whirlwind”, adding he appreciates all the support.
It's been mainly positive feedback, but some people have given him a bit of stick.
He said although he “makes it look like it’s loads of fun”, being a headteacher or a principal is “tough”.
His bragging rights? They are above the national average for primary school exam scores.
“Nobody can knock me for this. Nobody!” he told Lee, “we dance our way to the top!”
Safe to say, Mr T has really inspired me. Brb, I’ve got to talk to someone at George HQ about mandatory 2 pm raves.
