Here's how much cash you should have saved by 30, and consider my panic mode activated

Shockingly my $3.70 isn't enough...

Yep, we're getting older team, and with that comes the need to actually save money for things other than festival tickets. That's why an expert has shared how much we should have in our wallets by the time we hit the big 3-0!

Let's be real, you're reading this now because you want to save, but have no idea where to start. I just checked my bank account and trust me, you aren't the only one with less than 3 digits in there.

But it's not as hefty of a price as you may think.

According to Kelly Smith, a writer from The Penny Hoarder, we need to have 6 months' worth of expenses saved up by the time we are 30.

"I think the goal at any age is to get to the point of having six months of living expenses saved up. Admittedly, it's harder in your twenties, but it's a good time to start," Smith said.

At the very least, Smith says, you should have $1,200 put away for emergencies.

Seems doable, right?

Obviously, six months of expenses are different for everybody, but given that the average cost of living is thought to be around NZD$2,700 per month, you should have around $16,200 sitting in your bank account by your 30th.

So doing a bit of quick math, starting at age 20, you would need to save around $1,620 a year which is $31.15 a week.

Not too bad when you put it that way, eh?!

We might just need to cut down on some of our fun funds because with Whittaker's chocolate, Netflix and Spotify all announcing a price increase, there's absolutely no way I'll be making this goal...

I guess we better start now - good luck team!
