LISTEN: NZ tennis star Lulu Sun on inspiring the next generation of players

"I really wanted to be someone that someone could look up to.”

Catch the latest episode of The House of Wellness with Chemist Warehouse on The Breeze, where Mike sits down with content creator and women’s health advocate Jess Quinn, NZ tennis star Lulu Sun, editor of The House of Wellness magazine Vanessa Marshall and resident pharmacist Piyara Perera.

Featured Guest: Lulu Sun

Te Anau-born tennis star Lulu Sun says her decision to represent New Zealand was driven by a desire to inspire future generations.

“I really saw that there’s a potential in New Zealand to grow the sport… and I really wanted to be part of that scene and be someone that someone could look up to.”

Now based between tournaments around the globe, Lulu reflected fondly on her Southland upbringing and said she’s been humbled by the outpouring of support from home.

Behind the scenes, her wellness routine is a balance of training, mobility work, stretching and careful recovery.

Beyond the physical, Lulu emphasises the importance of mental resilience, focusing on your own journey rather than comparing yourself to others.

Featured Guest: Jess Quinn

Content creator, women’s health advocate and the latest cover star of The House of Wellness magazine Jess Quinn joined Mike to chat about her wellness journey and her platform ‘The Cyclist’.

After losing her leg to cancer at just 9 years old, Jess credits her parents’ optimism for shaping the positive outlook she carries today.

Since then, Jess has worn many hats. She’s a fashion graduate, model, blogger and a 'Dancing With The Stars' alumna, but her ultimate mission has always been to "normalise different".

After her own struggles with endometriosis and miscarriage, she co-founded ‘We Are The Cyclist’, a platform dedicated to empowering women with the knowledge, resources and confidence to advocate for their health.

Editor of The House of Wellness Magazine: Vanessa Marshall

Vanessa joined Mike this week to chat about the September issue of The House of Wellness magazine.

Featuring Jess Quinn on the cover, Vanessa says this issue is packed with inspiration.

From Rachel Grunwell’s insights on strength training to the launch of a new column with sporting icons Dan Carter and Dame Lisa Carrington, you can get your wellness fix all in one place.

Find the latest issue in store at your local Chemist Warehouse or online here.

Resident Pharmacist: Piyara Perera

As we shift from winter to spring, many people find themselves feeling sluggish rather than energised.

This week, Piyara joined the show to explain how this seasonal slump can often be due to disrupted circadian rhythms, lower vitamin D from reduced winter sunlight and common deficiencies in iron and B12.

To help restore energy naturally, Piyara suggested simple steps like soaking up morning sunlight, keeping consistent sleep habits, staying hydrated and moving the body daily.
