Classic Rock fans pay more for tickets than any other music-lover

Average prices for a ticket are over $20 more than the next most expensive genre.

Classic rock looks to be the most expensive genre to see live, with fans paying on average $20 more for tickets than pop music lovers.

According to FinanceBuzz, a financial independence blog, the average price of a ticket to a classic rock gig was around of US$119.94, with pop stars selling tickets for closer to $100 each.

The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, had the most expensive ticket of any individual act, with a whopping average price of $508.93 - that price is boosted a little from 'Springsteen on Broadway' where tickets were as high as $850.

This is not ideal for fans of acts such as Springsteen, but for other classic rock artists, it is great news, as it means they've gained a lot of money over the past five years. In total, classic rock artists earned more than $3.5 billion in ticket sales, with it averaging out at $35.5 million per tour.

The study looked at all tours across genres from 2017 - 2021. There were 100 classic rock tours in total across the five years. The Rolling Stones, Eagles, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, were some of the highest grossing tours of the classic rock artists. I guess this is the price you have to pay to hear the best music ever made live.
