STOP RIGHT NOW! Clint, Meg, and Dan, with Ash London, spoke with Spice Girl Mel C, and the queen did NOT hold back, opening up about handling the brutal ‘90s media, pop fame, and most recently, working with Kiwi singer Cassie Henderson.
Known also as ‘Sporty Spice’, the singer has been praised for her amazing physique and six-pack that she has maintained to this day.
Ash asked: “Are you just living at the gym or is it just so much a part of your life now that you don't even notice when you're just lifting weights and you're sleeping?”
“ In the nineties, it was all about cardio. We didn't really know much about protein. I feel like actually now, from years and years of being active, from being a kid, doing gymnastics, dancing, all through my life, it's just there,” Mel revealed.
The singer is also now on our TV screens as a judge on ‘The Voice Australia’, acting as a mentor for our very own Kiwi pop sensation Cassie Henderson, who (spoiler alert) placed as a runner-up in the competition.
When asked about her experience of working with Cassie, Mel beamed: “ Cassie is amazing. I know you Kiwis know that, right? She is such a superstar. I feel like she's on her way already. She has a career. She's just brilliant.”
“ I'll always be there as a mentor for Cassie, as long as she wants me.”
While being a Spice Girl had many amazing moments, most notably “meeting people like Nelson Mandela” and “performing at Wembley Stadium”, there were also some brutal downsides.
“ The British tabloids were ruthless, and they were on us, and not just as Spice Girls, but anyone in the public eye. It was incredibly misogynistic.” Mel said when asked about her experience of dealing with the press during the height of their fame.
“ Looking back, it's shocking the things that were said or the things we were asked or the things we were expected to do. It just wouldn't fly these days.”
After her incredible success in the 90s, Mel C’s career is still showing NO signs of slowing down. Her newest single, ‘Sweat,’ is out now, followed by a new album set for release on May 1st, 2026.
