More FM are getting behind this year's Breast Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Campaign by doing our very own Pink Ribbon All Request Show! On Friday, June 13th, Big Boss Bosto has handed you the reins, which means YOU choose the music we play on the show!

We want to create as much noise, awareness and donations Breast Cancer Foundation as possible! The money they receive helps them achieve this vision through; early detection education, supporting those with breast cancer, research & medical grants and advocacy. Breast Cancer can affect anyone, and everyone, including our very own Sarah Gandy.

When I was 36, I found a lump in my boob. It was October (Breast Cancer Awareness month – oh how the universe likes to laugh). It would have been really easy for me to ignore my lumpy boob but one of my best friend's Delaney, had just been through her own breast cancer treatment. Delaney's beautiful voice was in the back of my head, telling me I categorically had to go to the doctor.

I thought pain wasn’t a sign of breast cancer (it is). I had no idea a rash could be a sign (it is). I never knew to check under my arm when checking my breasts (you should). I genuinely thought I was too young to really worry. Turns out I had stage 3 breast cancer. I saw my GP that week, but the diagnosis took months. If it wasn’t for Delaney, I’m not sure I would have caught my cancer in time.

That's why I so passionately share my breast cancer story. Someone else's story can be the nudge you need to go and get checked. Breast Cancer Foundation NZ support and guide thousands of Kiwis every year through their own breast cancer treatment. They helped me through chemo, surgery, radiation and the on-going treatment that has managed to keep my cancer in remission.

We are doing our Pink Ribbon All Request show for a couple of reasons. The first is to show support for BCFNZ through donations (super important to keep their great work happening). It's also to show the love to the many women (and men) who have faced breast cancer themselves. Every song we play on the show will be a request made by someone donating to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. People can share their stories and messages of love - we are here for it all. - Sarah Gandy.
