Lorde is BACK, baby, with her fourth studio album, 'Virgin'. Alongside the music, she’s given us some visuals that are sparking quite a few reactions.
Over the weekend, after an unreal performance at Glastonbury, Lorde dropped the album in which she's exploring themes of identity, sexuality, gender, and self-reclamation.
She already made headlines when she revealed that the cover is literally an X-ray of her pelvis, complete with a visible IUD. People didn’t have too much to say about this one, it was mainly a sea of surprise from people who didn't realise that IUDs don’t sit in the middle.
But now, one of the images in the vinyl insert of the album has people REALLY piping up. It shows a close-up of her pubic hair through plastic trousers, giving rise to the term “Lordeussy.”
TikTok went wild. One video shows a guy looking at the vinyl with the text reading: “This is a new level of friendship, Lorde…”
Fans were quick to defend Lorde, with one insisting “the lordussy WAS present,” while others called out the reactions as over-the-top, saying “y'all are DRAMATIC” another asking, “no what are people freaking out about for? like it’s not that bad…”
Another TikTok user put it pretty well: “Everyone’s all for free the bush until it comes to the Lordeussy.” Fans chimed in with gems like: “full bush summer and everyone’s crying over a freshly mowed lawn,” and “Lordeussy isn’t a bush, it’s a little fuzz I fear… free the fuzz, the bush, the Amazon rainforest.”
"Y'all were just praising Lorde for being iconic for showing her IUD in the X-ray photo and now y'all are losing your minds about a bit of pubic hair," another comment read. "All I have to say is that I find that VERY interesting...”
From thoughtful takes like “nudity is not inherently sexual. There’s nothing sexual about the image at all,” to sarcastic reactions such as “the way everybody was acting, I thought you would have everything on full display… it’s just a little hair.”
One user summed it up perfectly, saying, “No opinion changes faster than the Internet's and chronically online people.”
Alongside the buzz online, Lorde’s also been popping up in unexpected places. From surprise club night crashes to intimate listening parties in Auckland, making this era feel raw, close, and totally unfiltered, just like the album itself.
Whether you’re all for the “Lordeussy” hype or just shaking your head, one thing’s for sure: 'Virgin' has everyone talking.
