Lorde fans in Auckland were buzzing after the Kiwi-born singer put on a VERY exclusive pop-up listening party.
On Wednesday afternoon, she dropped a sneaky hint that she’d be making a surprise appearance in the city.
It all kicked off when she shared a beach snap on her Instagram stories, captioned “Auckland", plus a link to a WhatsApp chat.
Not long after, fans received a message that read: “Auckland I wanna play you something ... Meet me in the city tonight? Message me if you’re keen.”
And naturally, fans were losing it - going on a wild goose chase to find the 'What Was That' singer. Some had already started heading to possible spots like Britomart, but Lorde had other plans.

She sent out the following text to just a few fans: “Okkkk see you and a +1 tonight [X-ray emoji] Meet me at 8:00. Send me your names and bring ID. Location to follow in a bit x x x x".
Despite over 100 fans waiting for hours outside the YMCA on Vincent Street, it was only a select group of 15 (plus their plus-ones) who made the final cut.
The chosen few were escorted into a small, dark bathroom, waiting to find out what the heck Lorde had planned.
Footage shows what looks like a live performance - or at the very least, a private listening session featuring tracks from her upcoming album 'Virgin'.
One fan posted: “POV: You just danced, screamed and cried with Lorde in the basement that Royals was shot in with 15 other gorgeous humans.”
Another fan shared a glimpse inside the intimate room.
“I feel like she's created this nostalgic moment for her OG fans.. It's something you would never see from any big artist, and it feels so personal. She is a living legend,” someone wrote in the comments.
Another added: “I was at this !!!!! I think the WhatsApp chat was connected to her mailing list, so OG fans were there. It was really special, [she] played four songs from her album, plus ‘Ribs’, and really made such an effort to interact and acknowledge everyone was so coool !!! This was where they shot the ‘Royals’ music video, so a full circle moment.”
Her Auckland pop-up follows a week of surprising fans after unexpectedly showing up at a Sydney club event dedicated to her upcoming album.
Lorde didn’t just lurk in a corner either. She was in the crowd, dancing, singing along to her own songs, snapping selfies with fans, and even jumped behind the decks.
She’s really out here creating lifelong memories for her die-hard fans. We LOVE to see it.
