"My eyes started leaking - absolutely Ataahua."

A group of over 100 Māori Students at Te Huinga Tauira 2025 singing a waiata

A stunning waiata from Te Huinga Tauira 2025 has gone viral - and honestly, it’s not hard to see why.

Over 100 voices come together to sing ‘Tōku Reo, Tōku Ohooho’ and the result is straight-up goosebump inducing.

The TikTok clip’s already rack up nearly 40,000 views in just 24 hours, and the comments section is showing loads of aroha for the group.

“I never scroll past ‘Toku Reo’, gives me happy tears,” said one commenter.

“Wow, my nose started twitching then my eyes started leaking - absolutely Ataahua ❤ ,” said another.

“Sing it louder!!!! Absolutely stunning!!!”

“I love opening TikTok and my first videos are all Te Huinga. Testament to how amazing you all are and the incredible work you’ve done this year !! Setting the standard,” a fourth added.

Te Huinga Tauira, if you’re not familiar, is the annual National Conference where Māori Students’ from across the motu gather to kōrero big issues, celebrate culture, and connect with each other.

Many commenters on the clip have suggested that ‘Tōku Reo, Tōku Ohooho’ has become an unofficial anthem for Aotearoa, largely because of how widely the song is used.

Earlier this year AUT Māori students went viral for beautifully sang the waiata at a 21st birthday.

Our NZ Black Ferns blew fans away with a post-match waiata after their win against Australian Wallaroos for the Laurie O'Reilly Cup.

And even overseas an American choir covered the waiata to honour native and indigenous voices.

They certainly did it the justice it deserves and put on a very moving performance.

Wherever it’s sung, one thing’s for sure - this waiata hits different!
