Olivia Dean reposts NZ singer's Māori cover - now she's 'manifesting' a collab

The image shows two women in a studio setting. On the left, a woman wears a light blue cowl neck camisole dress with dark floral patterns and a gold necklace, posing neutrally. To the right, a smartphone displays a close-up video of another woman with dark curly hair, piercings, and tattoos, eyes closed in a gentle smile, overlaid with white text.

New Zealand TikToker Jordyn with a Why has gone viral AGAIN for a stunning te reo Māori cover of one of the hottest songs of right now.

Olivia Dean has taken over our playlists, and her track ‘Man I Need’ has not stopped playing in our heads since we first heard it.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Jordyn recorded her own rendition in Te Reo, and not only has it gone mega viral, but Olivia herself has shown her love.

If you haven’t heard it already, what are you doing?!

Speaking with The Edge’s Ash London, Jordyn said she discovered her video had captured the attention of the ‘So Easy’ singer just before she was about to head to sleep.

“I checked my phone, and people kept commenting, ‘She’s reposted, she’s reposted’. I checked my notifications and she’d reposted 20 minutes before, so I really caught it early,” Jordyn said.

Naturally, she screenshotted the proof - duh!

Jordyn shared it EVERYWHERE - as you would - but isn’t sure what her next move should be.

“The energy is very strong on my end,” she added about already tagging Olivia across her socials to gain her attention.

Olivia Dean is set to perform here in Aotearoa in October, and you can absolutely guarantee we are rooting for Jordyn to get a mention or even a collab on stage!

“That is 100% the goal,” Jordyn told the team. “That is exactly what we’re manifesting, we’re putting it out to the universe!”

Jordyn pitched learning the track in Te Reo as the “new New Zealand anthem.”

It’s something we all NEED to learn - and lucky for us, Jordyn’s keen to share the lyrics.

She translates them herself and said it’s been a part of her journey of reclaiming her cultural identity.

“I’m not a te reo Māori expert, but I’ve been on the journey to reclaim the language for a few years, so it’s just me giving it a go. But also, it’s the kind of music that I make anyway - my whole thing is trying to normalise te reo Māori - and platform it on the biggest platform and stage as possible."

And she’s succeeding. This isn’t the first time Jordyn has gone viral with her te reo Māori covers.

Earlier this year, she also went viral for ANOTHER Olivia Dean track. Her version of ‘Dive’ gained a lot of aroha.

She’s on the rise, and we’re hoping to see a lot more of Jordyn with a Why on our screens, and who knows, that manifestation might just see her on stage with Olivia later this year!
