Hang out with Mai and Auckland Zoo this Friday, June 27th at EcoMatters Environment Trust, New Lynn, Tāmaki Makaurau for Matariki Community Day!

Whether you're swinging by for a morning coffee, bringing the whole whānau for some planting, or just keen to soak up the vibes- we've got a full day lined up to celebrate Matariki together.

Plus, tune in to Mai from Monday to Thursday for daily Redbands giveaways with the Mai Morning Crew, and whānau passes to Auckland Zoo with Storme from Mai Days!

Time: 6am - 2pm

From 6am:
  • Mai Morning Crew live broadcast

  • We’ve bought them out for the morning so we can all enjoy some delicious free hot Samāori Coffee from 6:15am.

  • Flax/harakeke weaving workshops with wāhine from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa from 7am - 10am.

From 10am - 1pm: Win, Plant, and Eat!
  • Mai Street Team onsite with chances to win:

  • Trade Tested Kneelers!

  • Mai bucket hats & side bags!

  • Storme from Mai Days broadcasting live!

  • Free Grayze Smash Burgers and fries from 11am (veg + GF options available)

  • The Native Seedling Hub! Take one home and learn how to care for it from the amazing team at Eco Matters.

  • Hourly planting, mulching & rongoā walks from 10am. Meet at the Mai & kai area for a quick briefing + karakia before heading down to the ngahere, forest and stream.

Need to Know:
  • There is Free parking in front of Waitākere Gym (off Portage Rd) & parking available at Olympic Park!

  • For public transport users, the New Lynn Train Station is only 8min walk away.

  • What to bring? Gumboots, a drink bottle, gloves (if you prefer), your own coffee cup (we will have reusable + compostable ones onsite also) or just yourself!

  • Whānau-friendly! Kids are more than welcome but must be supervised.

  • This is a waste-free event. There will be composting stations provided (all kai will be served using compostable serveware)

  • No animals please
