Home, Land and Sea is a tour de force collaboration for audiences in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, featuring performances from some of the country’s finest dancers and choreographers.

At the heart of the season is the world premiere of Home, Land & Sea, choreographed by acclaimed NZDC Artistic Director Moss Te Ururangi Patterson (Ngāti Tūwharetoa). Twelve dancers – six from each company – come together in this groundbreaking new work. With an original score by legendary musician Shayne P Carter, this is a poetic response to Aotearoa’s complex history, our evolving national identity and ongoing search for belonging.

These themes of transformation and connection are echoed in the world premiere of Chrysalis from RNZB choreographer in residence Shaun James Kelly, exploring his transformation from a young dancer in Scotland to his work as a dancer and choreographer in New Zealand. Chrysalis is completed with music by Philip Glass and costumes from leading fashion designer Rory William Docherty.

Completing the programme is Stephen Baynes’s The Way Alone, premiered as part of Tutus on Tour and travelling to larger stages in Aotearoa for the first time. A deeply personal response to music by Tchaikovsky, some well-known and some less familiar, The Way Alone is a contemplative, thoughtful, and inherently musical work by a master choreographer

Three unique ballets. Two world premieres. One unforgettable experience.
