WATCH: Taika Waititi serves sass on NZ Fashion Week opening catwalk

What an ICON.

Taika Waititi walking the runway at New Zealand Fashion Week is everything - and more - than we’d ever expect from the filmmaker.

NZFW kicked off at Auckland’s Shed 10 yesterday, and during the opening show 'Into The Archives', Waititi strutted his stuff, serving face, style, and sass.

While he’s known for his quick wit and charming personality, you’d expect the utmost seriousness from the ‘Jojo Rabbit’ director during an event like this. But not one to compromise his humour, Waititi became the star of the show.

In footage shared on TikTok, he pulls out all the stops to make sure every eye is on him. We’re talking , spinning, walking backwards, arm swinging with force, and throwing a 'Blue Steel' to the front row.

But it wasn’t just the sassy strut that made his catwalk iconic - it was the outfit too.

Waititi was dressed head-to-toe in an archival Zambesi look, rocking a flowing silk, patterned shirt-jacket over cropped charcoal pants, with branded socks and burgundy dress shoes.

The outfit didn’t wear him, he wore IT, and made it his own.

It's been a huge week for Taika, who just celebrated his 50th birthday in Ibiza with a star-studded party.

Guests included Matt Damon, Kate Moss, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cara Delevingne, Sebastian Stan, and of course, his wife Rita Ora.

Some of his Kiwi mates even made the trip. “The best surprise of all was when my cousins Rob Ruha and Ria Hall flew out to perform and honour me with haka and my own mere pounamu,” Taika shared in a thank-you post.

We love seeing our fave Kiwi director living his best life.
