In a new collab that we certainly didn’t see coming, Aersomith and Yungblud have dropped an acoustic version of their latest track, My Only Angel, featuring actor and comedian Steve Martin on the banjo.
Dubbed the Dessert Road Version, the track is more stripped back than the original song, with a dusty-road feel to it, and of course, the addition of the banjo.
"Inspired by the original track’s emotional core, the band and Yungblud returned to the studio to explore its more vulnerable side. During the session, Tyler—a longtime admirer of GRAMMY® Award-winning musician Steve Martin—imagined the distinctive sound of a banjo bringing the song to a close," an official press release states.
Martin shared the news on Facebook on Thursday last week, clearly buzzing about the collab: “I’m playing banjo on a Steven Tyler song! Here’s our text exchange for no particular reason,” he wrote, alongside a screenshot of their texts.
The texts show Tyler teeing up getting the song sent over to Martin, followed up by a thank you text after Martin recorded the banjo bit.
“Thank you soooo much for playing along with the song… Made the acoustic version of the song so so much better… So love your spirit,” Tyler wrote.
While Martin can’t be seen playing the banjo in the video, he recorded his part remotely and sent it over to be included on the track.
Following Aerosmith and Yungblud’s VMAs performance, where they paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, they announced they had collaborated on an EP called One More Time.
The EP is set to drop November 21st. My Only Angel serves as the lead single from the forthcoming EP, and marked Aerosmith’s first original release in over 12 years.
