Robert Trujillo describes Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘beautiful’ private funeral

Ozzy’s private funeral was held at his and Sharon’s home.

Metallica’s Robert Trujillo has talked about the late, great Ozzy Osbourne’s private funeral, describing it as “very, very beautiful”

The Metallica bassist was among a handful of close friends and family who attended Ozzy’s funeral, alongside Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Ozzy’s guitarist Zakk Wylde, Marilyn Manson, Yungblud, James Hetfield, and Ozzy’s Black Sabbath bandmates.

The private service was held at Ozzy and Sharon’s Buckinghamshire home on July 31st, where Ozzy was laid to rest near a lake on the property.

Speaking recently to SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk, Trujillo said, “It was a small group of people, but it was very, very beautiful.

"And in the end, the speeches were actually… I mean, it was very sad, but at the same time some of the speeches were - as you could imagine - pretty funny. And there were a lot of tears... Geezer broke down into tears. He had a hard time, obviously, speaking, and then he came back up and he delivered an amazing eulogy.”

He continued, “It had been raining at the beginning of the service, and then as it sort of progressed through the service, the weather would change and different things would happen.

“When Kelly (Osbourne) was singing, her lyrics flew - the wind blew her lyrics away. It was almost like Ozzy was having fun with her.”

Recalling a particularly special moment, Trujillo said, “When Geezer [Butler] spoke, actually spoke, the sun came out. I’m not kidding. The sun actually came out, and then it was beautiful from that moment on – a very magical moment.”

The Metallica bassist added the service was filled with "heartfelt words from so many people, and reconnecting with different musicians and bandmates, crew members, all that.”

Trujillo played in Ozzy’s solo band from the late ‘90s to 2003, leaving to join Metallica in place of Jason Newsted - who coincidentally, briefly filled in for him with Ozzy. He also played on Ozzy’s 2022 album Patient Number 9.

Most recently, Trujillo performed at Ozzy’s 2024 Rock Hall Induction, and with Metallica at Ozzy’s final gig at Villa Park.

At the Villa Park gig, Trujillo spent some time with The Prince of Darkness backstage, and told Ozzy, “'I am so proud of you. You were amazing and this means so much to all of us,” calling it a “heartfelt, powerful moment.”

Sounds like it was a beautiful send-off for our late legend Ozzy Osbourne.
