New Instagram Plus features let you see who’s rewatching your Stories and more

If Instagram is your go-to app, there’s now another subscription to add to the list because Instagram Plus is officially a thing.

The social media platform has launched a paid version of the app, giving users access to extra features and “more control” over their Instagram experience.

But is it actually worth paying for?

What is Instagram Plus?

The new subscription seems to be aimed at those who spend A LOT of time on Insta - from content creators, businesses, or people who just love keeping a close eye on what’s happening.

And by keeping a close eye, I mean seeing who’s watching your Stories, making sure your posts stick around for longer, and getting a few more insights.

Let’s be honest, the temptation to know who’s lurking on your profile is real.

“Instagram Plus offers exclusive features to help you express yourself, connect deeper with friends, and customise your experience in new ways,” the platform said in its announcement.

“The Instagram you know and love today isn't changing and will always be free; this new subscription is simply an optional upgrade for people who want more control, deeper insights, and premium features.”

What do you get with Instagram Plus?

Some of the biggest changes are around IG Stories.

• Story Preview lets you check out someone’s Story without feeling like you need to instantly react or reply

• Story Extend keeps your own Stories live for 48 hours instead of the usual 24

• Multiple Story Audiences lets you create as many custom lists as you like, so you can decide exactly who sees each Story

• Super Hearts adds animated hearts that burst across the screen when you react to a friend’s Story

• Story Spotlight helps give your Story priority among friends

• Story Rewatch Insights shows how many times your Stories have been viewed again.

• Search Viewer List can be used to quickly check whether a specific person has seen your Story.

There are also more ways to personalise your profile, including custom app icons, different bio fonts, pinning up to six posts at the top of your profile, and posting directly to your profile or highlights without sending it out to everyone’s feeds.

How much is Instagram Plus?

With constant price hikes hitting streaming services, music apps, cloud storage and more, are these extras enough to justify another monthly subscription?

Instagram Plus will cost NZD$6.99 a month, meaning it’s best for those who spend a serious amount of time on the app.

Instagram says the free version of the app isn’t going anywhere, so unless the curiosity is undeniable, you're sweet as is.
