'Can I even still call it a Lolly Cake?': More viral twists on the Kiwi classic

A Kiwi baker is back on Reddit doing what they do best, absolutely messing with a national treasure.
If you’ve spent any time lurking on r/newzealand lately, you may have seen the first creation that stirred up commenters when user ‘Elpickle123’ put pineapple lumps into their lolly cake. What started as a crazy idea has now turned into a bit of a segment on their Reddit, and people are definitely watching.
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen that Elpickle123 has taken things a few steps further. The latest creation is his most controversial yet, with Turkish Delights, Cherry Ripes, and a Pinky Bar.
But before that, he tried a Lolly Cake made with Krispie biscuits, Perky Nanas and Crunchie bars.
This version was met with plenty of praise. Comments included “A new bar has been set”, while another user went all in, saying, “This is like that scene in Aladdin where they sing A Whole New World and whizz around on the magic carpet”.
Not everyone was sold, though. Some users commented, “I love your enthusiasm, but I’ll sit this one out”, while another was more direct with a “Hard no”.
The feedback was far more divided on the next experiment. In the post ‘Lolly Cake R&D Week 8 - Sacrilege’, Elpickle123 replaced the lollies entirely with Turkish Delights, Cherry Ripes, and a Pinky Bar.
The comment section was split, with some praising the creativity, saying “Lolly road. Take me home” and “I’m not a fan of regular lolly cake, but this sounds good”.
Others weren’t convinced, with comments like “Looks great, but I’ll pass” and “absolutely terrible”. One user even went as far as calling it an “unholy abomination”.
While this post has stirred up and divided the comment section, one user brought up the good point saying, “At least we have found a use for all the favourites that never get eaten out of the box…”.
Want to give it a try? Well, you’re in luck; the Reddit user posted the full recipe they used.
Perky Nana and Crunchie Bar Lolly Cake:
Ingredients:
1 packet - 250g Krispie Coconut Biscuits
½ can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
100g Butter, cut into small pieces
3 tsp of fresh Lemon zest (roughly one medium lemon’s worth)
2x Perky Nana Bars - 100g (Freeze all bars for - 30 minutes to solidify)
2x Crunchie Bars - 100g (Add another bar of your favourite if keen)
¼ cup desiccated coconut to season
Method:
Prepare a baking sheet with parchment and set it aside.
Melt the butter and condensed milk together in a microwave-safe bowl.
Crush or process the biscuits into fine crumbs and place in your mixer bowl. (I opt to use a bag and a rolling pin)
Cut the lollies into your desired size while frozen for easy cutting. Freezing will also help them not be crushed/deformed in the mixer.
Add the Perky Nana pieces to the mixing bowl, along with the melted butter, condensed milk, and lemon zest. Keep the crunchy separate.
Mix together on the slowest setting until combined, then turn onto a baking sheet and spread thin. Finally, spread the crunchy evenly on top.
Do the final mix together by hand to keep the crunchy pieces whole and press into a log shape using your hands. Sprinkle coconut as desired.
Refrigerate for several hours, or overnight ideally. Cut and serve in slices.
