Miles Teller has confirmed that the team behind the Michael Jackson biopic are "working on" a follow-up.
Michael, starring Jaafar Jackson as his uncle, the King of Pop, achieved the highest-grossing opening weekend ever for a biopic in April and is currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2026.
Given its popularity with audiences and the fact that the story ends in 1988, rumours of a sequel have been swirling constantly, but the project has yet to be officially confirmed.
Teller, who played Jackson's lawyer John Branca in the film, revealed in an interview with IndieWire that he hasn't had any "direct discussions" about returning for the sequel but knows that plans are in motion.
"As far as the sequel goes, I know they're working on it. I haven't had any direct discussions, other than the team is excited to complete that story," he told the outlet.
Branca remained Jackson's lawyer until the music superstar died in 2009 at the age of 50. Branca is the co-executor of the singer's estate and a producer on the biopic.
Teller's co-star, Nia Long, who plays Jackson's mother Katherine, previously told Variety that she signed a contract for one movie rather than two, but hopes that fans of Michael ask the team "to continue its storytelling" as she would be excited to explore Katherine further.
"The first thing that I think is 'How does Katherine change through this journey?'" she shared. "'What does her relationship with her husband look like? What is the family dynamic in this next chapter?' So those are all exciting things I'm looking forward to exploring as we continue the process."
In a recent profile for The Hollywood Reporter, Colman Domingo, who plays controlling family patriarch Joe Jackson, said he was proud of the first film but wants "to know what story we will be telling in part two" before signing on.
Director Antoine Fuqua has also expressed a desire to return for the second part, telling Deadline that it "would kill (him) if somebody else did it".
