Dr. Martens has teamed up with Metallica for a limited-edition boot and shoe collection aimed squarely at the band’s most devoted fans.
The iconic footwear brand has called the collaboration “one for true devotees”, and it marks their first-ever creative partnership with the heavy metal legends. According to Dr. Martens, the collection pays homage to a band that has always delivered music for the outcast and marginalised, even while dominating charts for decades.
The drop is split into two parts. First up are the 1460 boots and 1461 shoes featuring artwork from Metallica’s classic 1986 Damage Inc. and 1988 Damaged Justice world tours.

The graphics were created by Pushead, a graphic artist whose gritty 1980s tour artwork became a defining part of Metallica’s visual identity during their rise.
There’s no shortage of fan service here either. The designs include Metallica “M” heel studs, special-edition dog tags, yellow welt stitching, and alternate laces reading “Boredom comes from a boring mind.”
These styles are set to land January 29 through Dr. Martens stores and online.
The second release is a stripped-back, black-on-black 1460 boot inspired by The Black Album.

Made from soft Orleans leather, it features the band’s logo embossed at the ankle and “5th Member” at the heel. That pair is exclusive to metallica.com.

You can sign up to be the first in line now - and if the scramble for Metallica posters when they last toured New Zealand is anything to go by - it’d probably be a good idea to do so.
