Lynyrd Skynyrd has revealed they’re sitting on "about 30 songs" written with their late founding guitarist, Gary Rossington, that have never been recorded.
Rossington, who was the last original member of the band, passed away in 2023 at the age of 71, but it sounds like he’s still got plenty to say.
Singer Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Ricky Medlocke sat down with French outlet Riff X recently to drop the news that Gary’s wife had handed over a literal treasure trove of tapes.
"We have songs that we wrote with Gary that we never recorded,” Van Zandt confirmed.
Medlocke explained that they only discovered the massive stash of material shortly after Gary's passing.
He spoke about how Gary’s wife “brought us a load of tapes” and that’s when they discovered about “30 songs that Gary had taken part with Johnny and myself and whomever.”
It’s been a minute since we’ve had a fresh Skynyrd record, with their last album, Last of a Dyin’ Breed, dropping way back in 2012. While nothing is set in stone just yet, the boys are definitely keen to get these tracks out to the fans.
"We’ll see what the future brings," Van Zant said, "but we would like to bring that to the forefront and get it to our fans."
With a 2026 tour already in the works, it’d be an absolute result to have some new tunes to blast before then.
