‘Life is complete': Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Free Bird’ finally gets a music video 52 years on

“I’m 67 years old. I just had 25 flashbacks and I’m still crying."

It’s fair to say we had all run out of hope for Lynyrd Skynyrd's iconic song 'Free Bird' ever getting legendary visuals to go along with it.

But here we are, 52 years after the song was released, the iconic nine-minute-long video has arrived.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame dropped the video over the weekend and it’s already at upwards of 1.5 million views.

Directed by Max Moore, the video shows an old biker finding pictures from his youth which spark memories of his past love and wild rides. He dusts off the bike and takes it for a hoon, and what follows is a cinematic masterpiece - moving, nostalgic and everything this song deserves.

‘Free Bird’ is a universally recognisable banger, with one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time.

It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008, and has over 773 million Spotify plays.

Fans in the comments were quick to share their happiness.

“Strange to think that the future generations will have this video as a visual representation of ‘Free Bird’, while we only had the album cover til 3 days ago,” said one YouTube commenter.

Some were comedic in their relief: “I finish work, it’s been a hard day, I come home, Free Bird is on the YouTube home screen, I crack a beer. Life is good.”

“I’m 67 years old. I just had 25 flashbacks and I’m still crying,” said one deeply moved fan.

My life is complete.

The release is very timely, as Lynyrd Skynyrd are currently touring stages across North America and Europe, all the way through October, to mark their 50th year of Rock.

If you haven’t already, sit back, relax and let yourself be immersed in the video that we all deserve.
