Our very own Lorde is doing her bit to fight back against the horrors taking place in America as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) illegally terrorises various cities across the United States.

The Kiwi hitmaker announced on Instagram this morning that she is donating $204,000 (NZD $336,646) - the entirety of merch sales from her shows in Minneapolis last October - to the Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee and Immigrant Defence Network.

Minneapolis has witnessed countless shocking injustices at the hands of ICE agents this year, with two US citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both shot and killed by federal agents within weeks of each other. Daily immigration raids have seen people - including children - brutalised, dragged from their cars, homes, schools and workplaces and sent to detention centres out of state.

Peaceful protesters have also been pepper-sprayed, shot with rubber bullets, shoved, beaten and arrested. The 29-year-old singer shared the news of her contribution to the cause against an image her with the words "ICE OUT" written on her hand in black marker.

Fans quickly praised the donation as "kind" and a "baller move" on Reddit.

"Damn. Wish I would’ve bought more merch that night," one person wrote.

"So sad that someone who’s not even American cares more about this than so many of our American celebrities. Good for her!" another comment read. The words '"ICE OUT" made several appearances at the Grammys earlier this week, with some artists wearing badges on their red carpet outfits and others acknowledging the situation in their acceptance speeches.

“Before I say, ‘Thank God,’ I’m going to say, ‘ICE out,’” Bad Bunny said while accepting one of his awards on the night.

“We’re not savage. We’re not animals. We’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”

Olivia Dean also took the time to pay tribute to her immigrant background during her acceptance speech for Best New Artist.

"I'm up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I'm a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated.

“We're nothing without each other,” she reminded the audience.
