It’s been 25 years since How the Grinch Stole Christmas hit cinemas and officially became a festive classic, but Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen just had their first proper catch-up since filming - and the reunion’s enough to make your heart grow three sizes.
The pair, who played The Grinch and little Cindy Lou Who, reunited on the red carpet at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Los Angeles over the weekend. Carrey was there to induct Soundgarden, while Momsen - now fronting her rock band The Pretty Reckless - performed with Soundgarden and Brandi Carlile during the event.
Posing together for photos, Carrey told reporters, “We haven’t seen each other since The Grinch.”
Momsen, grinning, replied, “Yeah, it’s been 25 years. This is insane.”
The 32-year-old, who was just five when she filmed the movie, told People she still remembers Carrey’s kindness on set. “I just love that he was very protective of me,” she said. “He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming Grinch and getting to know him so well, even in all the make-up, was just wonderful.”
She added that watching him work up close left a massive impression.
As a young person watching an artist at work and taking their craft so seriously, that left a really powerful, lasting impact on me as an adult now. And I’m excited to be able to tell him that as a grown-up.
Since The Grinch, Momsen’s gone from child star to certified rocker, with acting stints in Spy Kids 2 and Gossip Girl before leaving Hollywood behind in 2010 to focus on music full-time.
Reuniting with Carrey two and a half decades later, both of them now fully in their rock eras, feels like the most unlikely - but perfect - Christmas crossover ever.
