Jack Black, Geezer Butler and young Roman Morello shredding War Pigs together. Absolute legend stuff.
Over the weekend, Tom Morello brought his inaugural Power to the People Festival to Columbia, Maryland, with a ridiculously stacked lineup featuring legends including Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Dave Grohl, and, of course, Jack Black’s gloriously heavy Black Sabbath tribute act, Jack Sabbath.
But nobody could have expected the absolute madness that was about to unfold.
Jack Sabbath’s three-song set kicked off with Ozzy Osbourne’s Mr. Crowley, followed by Black Sabbath’s The Wizard. Then came the moment that sent the place into orbit: Geezer Butler walked onto the stage.
With Black on vocals, Butler on bass and Tom Morello’s teenage son Roman tearing it up on guitar, the band launched into the Sabbath classic War Pigs.
And yeah… holy shit.
The Jack Sabbath lineup is a family affair of rock royalty, featuring Roman Morello on guitar, Scott Ian’s son Revel on bass, Japanese drumming prodigy Yoyoka Soma behind the kit, and keyboardist Hugo Weiss. Seeing these young guns sharing the stage with one of heavy metal’s founding fathers was something pretty bloody special.
But War Pigs wasn’t the only unexpected collaboration of the day. Jack Black also joined Run-DMC legend DMC and Tom Morello for a wild rendition of Aerosmith’s Walk This Way.
During the set, Black also paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne by delivering the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction speech he gave for the metal icon in 2024.
“This motherfucker invented Heavy Metal, along with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and the immortal Tony Iommi, the darkest, heaviest shit the world had ever heard.”
Imagine rocking up to Tom Morello’s festival expecting a day of rock royalty, only to watch Jack Black, Geezer Butler and a bunch of ridiculously talented young guns absolutely belt out Black Sabbath.
How bloody good is this?
