A bunch of Kiwi students have dreamed up an energy-boosting alternative to coffee or energy drinks that claims to have some health benefits, too. Hauora Collective NZ, run by five Timaru high school students, just launched 'Ora Drops' - flavoured drops to add to water as a way to "promote long-term wellbeing".
The girls launched with three flavours - Lemon & Lime, Blackcurrant & Boysenberry, and Raspberry. You just add Just drop 10 drops into your water bottle and get to sippin'.
Each 50ml bottle packs 50 servings for $12.99, meaning you’re only paying around $0.26 per boost! Even the most committed caffeine lovers will have to admit that's a lot cheaper than a cup of coffee or an energy drink.
Why the substitute? They wanted to create a "sustainable option that promotes long-term well-being."
“Our commitment is to encourage positive lifestyle changes, empowering individuals to make healthier choices and lead more fulfilling lives,” the team wrote on their website.
Each bottle contains ginseng plus, complete B complex and colloidal minerals which can help boost energy naturally and provide some essential vitamins and minerals.
Hauora Collective is part of the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES), where students make their inventive business ideas a reality.
Working with manufacturers the girls launched their products in an online shop, and it appears the drops are selling fast.
It seems finding alternatives to caffeine is a HUGE topic for young business starters.
You might remember Crave Caffeinated Gum, created by another set of Timaru students looking to stamp out our usual unhealthy caffeine go-tos.
The boys launched last week with great success, telling Stuff they’ve already sold over 150 units.
Their substitute is one to take on the go. "We want to use this idea of coffee and create a gum that you can eat on the go to get the same boost of coffee with a minty taste in your mouth,” CEO Sunny Chen previously told The Timaru Herald.
I'm not quite ready to quit coffee altogether, but these young entrepreneurs have definitely got me rethinking my intake.
