REVIEW: Harry Styles’ new album ‘KATTDO’ gives main character energy

It’s a good day! Not ONLY because Harry Styles just dropped his latest album 'Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally' - oh, who am I kidding, that’s absolutely solely responsible for all of our moods today!
I jumped out of bed this morning to listen to the full tracklist from top to bottom, and I have thoughts.
The overall vibes of the album give soundtrack. What do I mean by that? Well, it genuinely was the soundtrack to my morning - getting ready and driving into work. I got the overwhelming sense that I was just a girl in a movie, flowing along to each track. No skips, just the perfect 42 minutes of reaching a flow state and not giving a care to the world around me. Call it main character syndrome - I call it peace, lol.
'The Summer I Turned Pretty' would absolutely devour this album for a head-out-the-car-window, wind-blowing-through-your-hair type of vibe. Or for going on an angsty run where not a single thought runs through your head and you’re fully in the zone.
Listen, is it stacked to the brim with radio bangers? No. But there are some top contenders that fit the vibes, including, of course, 'Aperture', 'Pop' and 'Dance No More'.
You get the sense that this is 32-year-old Harry in album form. These are songs he wanted to experiment with, and he’s made them for himself - not necessarily for what will be the big hits. That said, I don’t doubt we’ll see more than a few tracks off this album become HUGE.
A top favourite so far also includes 'Ready, Steady, Go!', which fans are saying is the track that "itches" a very specific part of their brain. Listen to that deep beat and you’ll understand.
‘Season 2 Weight Loss’, I feel, will be the most underrated song based on first impressions. It’s not quite enough to fully bop along to, but it’s also groovier than your typical singalong. It has a similar vibe to 'Aperture' and will absolutely be added on a few of my personal playlists.
In terms of the album name itself, there are 100% two separate vibes across the record - but they absolutely weave within each other. Here’s how I’d split them:
‘Kiss All The Time’
'American Girls'
'Taste Back'
'The Waiting Game'
'Coming Up Roses'
'Paint By Numbers'
'Carla’s Song'
‘Disco Occasionally’
'Aperture'
'Ready, Steady, Go!'
'Are You Listening Yet?'
'Season 2 Weight Loss'
'Pop'
'Dance No More'
'Carla’s Song', the final track on the album, does a nice job of wrapping it all up with a bow. It feels like the switch song - true to both styles of the album - and makes it the perfect final piece of the puzzle for 'Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally.'
Obviously, I've only listened to the full thing once or twice so far, so there are PLENTY more thoughts still to come, and obviously everyone’s taste is different. But I think we can all agree that Harry has done it again with another successful release.
