Gracie Abrams tells us what it's like having Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo as mates

Plus, she reveals how seeing an early Lorde performance changed the game.

Before her sold-out Spark Arena show and after strolling the streets of Auckland with boyfriend Paul Mescal, Gracie Abrams took the time to chat to our own Meg Mansell about her superstar support circle.

From opening for Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift to being hyped up by Billie Eilish, Gracie’s seems to have the literal dream team on her side - but she doesn't take it for granted.

“These women that you've just named - Billie, Olivia, Taylor… they've been solely supportive, like deeply, deeply, deeply generous with their platforms towards me,” she said.

“It's the easiest thing in the world to talk about them for ages because they're just the greatest.”

Gracie said she feels lucky to be coming up in an era where women supporting women is not just encouraged, it’s celebrated.

“It’s such a privilege to grow up in a time where that concept even is being celebrated,” she said.

“I remember tabloids and sh*t, like when I was little, there was so much pinning women against each other all the time in the most laughable, most bullshit ways, you know?”

Now, thanks to the artists who came before her, Gracie says she feels she can be raw and real in her own work.

“The fact that I get to do this, and the fact that I get to so comfortably write about my feelings and experiences and relationships, like, that alone is so lucky,” she said. “I feel empowered to do that kind of job.”

And while she’s been lifted up by some of the biggest names in music, she’s just as quick to do the same.

When Meg pointed out how often Gracie shines a light on other women, including a recent post celebrating Lorde’s latest track, she channelled her inner fangirl for her friend.

“She… I love with my whole heart and soul. I’ve loved her forever, before we even met,” Gracie said.

She recalled seeing Lorde live at a tiny LA venue just before 'Pure Heroine' dropped, a performance that left her in absolute awe.

“I had never, until that moment, seen someone perform and think that maybe I could one day find a version that felt like me in the way that that felt like her,” she said.

Safe to say we are very jealous of her close circle, but we absolutely love to see it. Listen to the full interview below.
