SportsBible thought it would be a bit of harmless fun to get fans to vote for the greatest MMA fighter of all time. Instead, they’ve accidentally started a full-blown scrap in the comments, and honestly, it’s more entertaining than some fight cards.
At the top of the list sits Georges St-Pierre, the Canadian legend and three-time UFC welterweight champion. Fair enough, most people agree GSP belongs somewhere near the throne.
Second place went to Islam Makhachev, the current UFC lightweight champion and one of the most dominant fighters in the game right now.
Third was Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson, the former flyweight king who many still reckon is the most technically perfect fighter the sport has ever seen.
Our very own Israel Adesanya came in at number 16. That’s a two-time UFC middleweight champion sitting outside the top 15, which didn’t go unnoticed by Kiwi fans scrolling the list with a raised eyebrow and a clenched jaw.
Controversial fighter Conor McGregor landed all the way down at 22, and that’s where the comments section completely melted.
One fan wrote, “CMG, at 22. No. The guy took the entire UFC to the level it’s at now, completely by himself.” Another added, “Not sure how you have him at 22, UFC was barely on the map till he showed up!”
Others weren’t buying it at all: “Caption should read ‘Gen Z voted on greatest UFC fighters of all time’. No list is complete without Royce Gracie.”
Some pointed out other omissions, such as Igor Ice Cold Vovchanchin, Mirko Cro Cop, and Cain Velasquez.
Some disagreed with the top pick: “How is George st Pierre No. 1 lol! He’s defo below Jon Jones, but Mighty Mouse takes the top spot for me!”
Others batted hard for Silva: “Anderson Silva at 7 is crazy if ya forgot dude went undefeated for like 10 years and he was crazy good.”
“The GOAT at 7th?” asked another.
What do ya reckon? Fans dropped the ball or what?
