The trailer for Brad Pitt’s 'Heart of the Beast', filmed right here in New Zealand, has just dropped.
It gives us our first proper look at the production, which spent a good chunk of last year filming in the South Island’s epic landscapes.
While the film is set in remote Alaska, the trailer shows off some stunning Queenstown scenery.
In the trailer, Brad Pitt’s character is seen being pulled from Lake Wakatipu, trekking across The Remarkables, and fishing along the stoney riverbanks of Glenorchy.
“It’s not who you live for… It’s who you’d die for,” a caption on the YouTube video teases.
“After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness,” the film's synopsis reads.
Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements.
From acclaimed filmmaker David Ayer, ‘Heart of the Beast’ is described as an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.
And honestly, if you watch the trailer, there’s a very good chance you’ll already feel very strongly about Odin.
“If the dog dies, we riot,” one person wrote in the comments.
Another added: “We all hope that the dog will survive.”
The movie spent time filming across locations in the Queenstown area last year, and Pitt looked like he thoroughly enjoyed his time here in Aotearoa. In May 2025, GQ Magazine posted Pitt's cover shoot video to Instagram, showing the actor riding around on a vintage motorbike in the Glenorchy area.
The clip shot by Queenstown production company Storyworks shows him cruising through the beautiful scenery along Lake Wakatipu, strolling along the stone bank - both highlighted in the new film.
So, if you’re not already planning to watch the film for Pitt or the plot, you’re gonna want to see how the stunning Aotearoa scenery looks on the big screen.
'Heart of the Beast' hits cinemas on September 25.
