It’s taken nearly two years post-breakup for Barry Keoghan to speak on rumours that he cheated on Sabrina Carpenter.
During an episode of Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky's 'Friends Keep Secrets' podcast, the 'Saltburn' actor said he has been “avoiding stuff”.
“I came off Instagram and social profiles. I stopped going to events. I stopped socialising,” he added.
He didn’t mention Sabrina by name, but did refer to a “narrative” around a cheating scandal.
“A narrative that’s not true and I’ve not confirmed or said anything about it,” Barry continued. “I just disappeared.”
ICYMI - after dating for around a year, Barry and Sabrina split in late 2024. A big part of the speculation around cheating rumours stemmed from influencer Breckie Hill.
A blind item (anonymous celeb gossip) alleged Barry had been “cosy with a blonde LA-based influencer”.
Fans quickly landed on Breckie, who began reposting TikToks and social media posts hinting at the rumour, which led fans to believe she was confirming the claims.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Barry also touched on the social media backlash following Breckie’s online behaviour, explaining how fans held on to what seemed like confirmation of the rumours.
However, when the influencer later denied any involvement with the actor, “no one seemed to latch on to that”.
“I don’t ever want to bring anyone else into it, but unfortunately, having a relationship in the public eye, it gets put out there, and it’s amplified.”
“I’m not asking people to become my fan or like me,” he continued. "I’m asking people to stop assuming and to stop jumping on this narrative and attacking me and dragging me down in any way... [It's] just absolutely disgusting, vile.”
Although he alluded to his and Sabrina’s time together, Barry said he never wants to “mention other people or involve them”.
“Even if it is those people that I was in a relationship with, it’s not my place or their place to speak on my or their behalf,” he continued.
“It’s unfair to them. They’re also in the relationship. It’s both of us out there. I’m very aware of that.”
So, with that out in the open now, it feels like the chapter might finally be closing, giving everyone a chance to move forward.
