After months of anticipation for Alice Cooper fans worldwide, the time is finally here. The release day for ‘The Revenge of Alice Cooper’, the original Alice Cooper Group’s eighth studio album.
That’s right, all the surviving members of the original band, drummer Neal Smith, guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, of course, lead singer Alice Cooper, have come together for their first project in 50 years.
The group's late lead guitarist, Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997, even appears on the album. This comes in the form of an unreleased recording featuring on the twelfth track, ‘What Happened to You’, which was built around his original guitar riff.
Safe to say it’s been a busy past few months for the lads, and a sad week leading up to this day with the recent news of Ozzy Osbourne's death (which Alice paid tribute to), but now fans can hear the fruits of their labour.
The band kicked off the release with an exclusive live event at London’s Union Chapel, which was also live-streamed online earlier today.
In this, the audience was treated to an album pre-listening and a Q&A.
While some had low expectations for the release, others found themselves pleasantly surprised.
One Reddit user labelled it a “solid comeback” and was amazed at how well they still played.
“These guys play so vibrantly despite their age, it's simply amazing. I think this album can be proudly placed alongside their '70s releases… I'm loving "Blood on the Sun" and "Famous Face" at the moment," he wrote.
A quick browse through various social media comment sections and threads also shows that most fans have enjoyed the album
A quick shout-out to our favourite review under the event livestream on YouTube, which kept it short and sweet.
“WHAT A GREAT F****** ALBUM”, commented Anthony.
It is still early days yet, so we’ll see if any naysayers come out of the woodwork, but how much could someone really hate the Alice Cooper Group?
It’s classic rock through and through, and it’s got that nostalgic sound that reminds you of those good old days.
You can’t be mad at that.
Have a listen for yourself here and see what you think (note: the songs play out at the start of the stream and then the Q&A begins just before the 56-minute mark).
