Vote Kea - Bird of the Year

A brown Kea parrot stands on a rock with large white text "Bird of the Year", two white outline feathers, and "BREEZE" against a blurred blue and rocky landscape.

It’s that time again where The Breeze needs your support for Bird of the Year!

The Breeze is backing New Zealand’s BEST bird - The Kea again this year!

WE came SO close in 2025, taking the second spot, which means 2026 is OUR year!

Make Kea your vote for Bird of the Year

Because who Kea’s about the rest?!

Kea Facts:

  • Been lucky enough to see a Kea on your travels? Do them a favour and don’t feed them! Feeding the cheeky little birds ends up getting them into all kinds of trouble.

  • Kea are thought to be VERY clever! Some scientists even think that they might be as smart as a 4 year old child!

  • Wild kea exist only in the South Island of New Zealand in and around the alpine areas and are the only mountain parrot species in the world.

  • Kea are listed as Nationally Endangered and now number fewer than 7,000.
