Toogood To Miss – Win Jon Toogood's New Memoir + $100 Cash!

A promotional image for Jon Toogood's memoir "Home Again," featuring the book cover with a photo of Jon Toogood holding a guitar, flanked by "THE ROCK" and "KEEN TO WIN?" text against a dark background.

He's been the voice behind some of New Zealand's biggest rock anthems, and now Jon Toogood is telling his full story.

To celebrate the release of Home Again, The Rock Auckland has teamed up with Hachette New Zealand to hook you up with a signed copy of Jon Toogood's brand-new memoir, plus $100 cash.

From the rise of Shihad to life behind the music, Home Again is Jon's honest, unfiltered story - covering the highs, the lows, anxiety, relationships, and the moments fans have never heard before.

Reflecting on the band's journey, Jon writes:

To get to somewhere really good, you often have to wade through tricky waters.

The book also takes readers behind one of Shihad's biggest songs, Home Again. Jon reveals that after sitting on the music for almost a year, the pressure of writing the lyrics only grew - until the band finally pushed him to get it done.

The longer I didn’t write it, the bigger the task felt,

Jon writes. But once he finally started,

after about a year of putting it off, all the lyrics for ‘Home Again’ were written in about 20 minutes.

It's just one of the many stories from a career that has seen Shihad rise, fall, fight back and become one of New Zealand rock's most enduring bands. As Jon puts it,

We tended to be at our best when we were the underdogs.

Want to hear more from the man himself? Jay and Dunc also caught up with Jon for a special Not For Radio podcast interview, where he talks about Home Again, the book and more.
