This year’s competition is extra special as it celebrates its 70th anniversary. Widely seen as a launchpad for New Zealand’s top operatic talent, the Song Quest has been discovering mand championing emerging singers since 1956, including Dame Kiri herself.
This year, 12 semi-finalists will take to the stage on 4 and 5 July, performing in front of an international head judge, acclaimed soprano Frederica von Stade. From there, six finalists will earn their place at the Grand Final Gala on 11 July, performing alongside the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at the Michael Fowler Centre.
