Maren Morris joins Sharyn to talk ice storms, touring as a mum, and her "fire" NZ setlist. She loves Aotearoa so much she’s considering becoming a permanent resident.
We are absolutely buzzing because the wonderful Maren Morris is finally back in New Zealand for her Auckland and Christchurch shows. Sharyn has been a massive fan for years, and after three digital chats in twelve months, they finally got to sit down backstage to talk about everything from Nashville weather to "toilet songs".
It turns out Maren’s journey to New Zealand was a total nightmare. She opened up about the "once in a century" ice storm in Nashville that saw trees snapping and power lines falling, which almost trapped her in her neighborhood. On top of the weather chaos, her son Hayes caught the flu for the first time, making the juggle of a world tour and motherhood feel more real than ever.
Despite the rocky start, Maren is loving her time here. She spent a "perfect day" at Mud Brick on Waiheke Island and is gearing up for her first-ever trip to the South Island. She’s even bringing Joel Little along for the ride in Christchurch. Maren was so impressed by the vibe here that she joked about bringing her son over and becoming a resident because of how safe and beautiful the country feels.
We also got a deep dive into the Dreamsicle tour setlist. Maren promised there are no lulls in the show, meaning fans won't find a single "toilet song" in the mix. While she’s not playing Second Wind just yet, she’s already planning to bring it back for the 10th anniversary of her album Hero next year.
