Auckland is about to play host to one of the biggest nights in New Zealand boxing history!
This August 8th, Waikato-born David Nyika and Brisbane’s Floyd Masson will battle for the IBF’s No. 1 challenger position, with the winner earning a mandatory shot at the vacant IBF Cruiserweight World Championship.
David Nyika is easily one of New Zealand’s most decorated amateur sluggers, boasting an Olympic bronze and two Commonwealth Games gold medals. He enters this bout with a sharp 12-1 professional record. His only defeat came at the hands of the undefeated Australian champion Jai Opetaia, so you reckon he's hungry to get back to the absolute top.
Across the ring is Floyd Masson. He might represent Australia these days, but he’s a Te Awamutu boy originally. Masson is a tough customer and a former IBO World Cruiserweight Champion with a dangerous 17-2 record. Having two Waikato blokes clashing on the global stage is pure chaos, and it’s going to be an absolute beauty of a fight!
The card will also feature fan favourite Manu Vatuvei alongside undefeated rising Kiwi contender Sheilla Yama. Co-promoted by Duco Events and Parker Promotions, the event reunites the experienced team behind world title campaigns for former World Champion boxers Joseph Parker and Jeff Horn.
