This summer, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is hosting a major international exhibition, Pop to Present: American Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

The exhibition packs 52 works into one place, covering eight decades of massive cultural shifts and artistic experimentation in the US. You’ll see iconic pieces from the names you know, like Andy Warhol’s Triple Elvis, plus works from Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, and Mark Rothko.

This exhibition shows a thorough survey of Contemporary art, which is defined as the art of the present, with pieces being created from the post-World War II era to the current day. These works of art powerfully demonstrate how American artists have consistently responded to social, political and cultural issues.

This is a chance to see a bunch of artists and works that rarely, if ever, make it to this part of the world. If you're keen to see some art that truly changed the game, you won't want to miss this one.
