Zach Braff reveals he auditioned for Widow's Bay

Zach Braff has revealed that he submitted an audition tape for the lead role in the TV show Widow's Bay.

In the critically acclaimed horror-comedy series, Matthew Rhys plays Tom Loftis, the mayor of Widow's Bay, a New England island town which is afflicted by a curse that brings supernatural evils upon the island.

During a recent appearance on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Scrubs star Braff revealed that he submitted an audition tape for the lead role.

"Normally when I don't get a part, I'm p**sed and I refuse to watch (the project), but the pilot script was so good, I was intrigued," he shared. "Matthew Rhys is incredible and I'm really enjoying the show."

Braff noted that because he didn't audition in-person, he received no direction or guidance about the show's tone and had to come up with his own interpretation based on the pilot's script.

"When I read for it, I was doing something completely different and I wish that I had got in the room with them to be like, 'What's the tone of this?'" he continued. "The tone of that could have gone a totally different direction. The tone they chose is amazing."

The Going in Style director added that although he's "not a big horror guy", he loves the show despite all the "jump scares" and "freaky s**t".

Widow's Bay debuted on Apple TV in April and has already been renewed for a second season.

It is currently nominated for 19 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Rhys, ahead of the awards ceremony on 14 September.

Braff is currently filming the second season of the Scrubs revival series. He has also directed episodes of Scrubs, Shrinking and Rooster.
