Yungblud broke down on stage recently while performing his cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes” in tribute to his close friend Ozzy Osbourne.
Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, first performed the song back on July 5th at the Back to the Beginning concert, where his emotional take on Sabbath’s 1972 ballad became one of the night’s standout moments.
After Ozzy’s passing, Yungblud made a personal vow: he’d sing the cover at every single show moving forward. Speaking about the promise, he said:
“To sing this song for you at an event surrounded by legends inspired by you to a crowd who loved you was truly my life’s greatest honour and I vow to play this song every night for the rest of my life.”
During the opening night of his North American leg of his Idols World Tour (August 23), Yungblud was performing the Sabbath song at the Hollywood Palladium when he got visibly choked up.
During the performance, he stepped away from the mic and shed a few tears while the crowd cheered him on, before finishing (and once again, nailing) the cover.
Among the fans that night was Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne, who later posted a photo with Yungblud and wrote: “Thanks for keeping the legacy alive.”
A few nights later, Geezer Butler went to Yungblud’s Salt Lake City gig, calling it the ‘best show he’s seen in years.’
Geezer posted a photo of the two to social media, where he wrote: “No, it’s not Yungblud and Santa, or his grandpa, it’s me dropping by before the show in Salt Lake City. Best show I’ve seen in years- great songs, loadsa fun, brilliant band, and of course the incredible @yungblud”
The performance carried even more weight when you remember Ozzy’s final show at Villa Park, where a special moment was captured between the two singers. In a video posted to social media where Yungblud was gifting Ozzy a necklace, Ozzy told the young singer: “Conquer America next. Just keep going, don’t give in.”
Epic to see Yungblud holding up his promise and honouring The Prince of Darkness.
