After years of fan speculation, endless #Phan shippers, comments and questions, British YouTubers Dan Howell and Phil Lester have officially set the record straight on their relationship - they’re a couple!

In a new video on their shared channel, Dan and Phil sat down to address the more than a decade's worth of rumours head on.

“Alright, let's get this over with. Are Dan and Phil in a relationship?” Dan asked straight to the camera. 

Phil put it plain and simple… “Yes”.

“Alright, bye,” Dan joked, standing up as if the convo was over just like that. “Oh, sorry, you wanted more, did you?”

In the video, the couple shared that their relationship began “hard and fast” back in 2009, around the time the two started collaborating on YouTube videos.

“Here we are, almost 16 years later,” Dan said.

The two explained that they’d never really labelled things early on - things just happened naturally.

"We just ended up living together, and here we are," Dan added.

“What we had was the most important thing to me, and I wanted to protect it,” he admitted, reflecting on years of intense fan speculation and Phan speculation pushing their relationship into the spotlight.

When other people tried to grab it and drag it into the light, I felt completely violated.

"It's sad because those years should have been the happiest times of our lives,” Phill said. “I mean, it was so amazing. We were having so much fun, personally.”

Dan also shared why they kept things private, especially early in his 20s.

"In my mid-20s, I felt we had to hide the relationship because I was still hiding who I was to my friends, family, and myself." 

Fans will remember Dan coming out in June 2019, with Phil posting a similar video shortly after. At the time, Dan hinted at their romantic connection but didn’t reveal the full picture.

Now, the couple says they’re excited to step into a new era of content together - but it won’t revolve around their relationship or as they put it, being "couple vloggers".

They also announced their next joint project - 'The Dan and Phil' Podcast.

“15 years of suppressing all of these stories and opinions, and they’re finally gonna come out,” Phil joked.
