Whether you're planning a movie marathon at home or heading outdoors for a scenic adventure, the Drive Show team has handpicked four recommendations that we think deserve a spot on your weekend list.
If you've never watched Radio, this weekend is the perfect time.
Starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris, Radio is inspired by the true story of James "Radio" Kennedy, a young man with an intellectual disability whose life changes after he forms an unlikely friendship with a high school football coach. What makes this film timeless isn't dramatic twists or action sequences—it's humanity. It reminds us that kindness can transform lives, inclusion matters, and sometimes the biggest heroes are ordinary people who simply choose compassion.
If you're looking for something fresh on OTT, don't miss Main Vaapas Aaunga, the latest acclaimed work from filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
Known for creating deeply emotional stories and unforgettable characters, Imtiaz Ali once again explores themes of identity, relationships, longing and self-discovery. Rather than relying on over-the-top drama, the film lets emotions breathe, making every scene feel authentic and relatable. It's the kind of cinema that rewards patience, where conversations, silences and performances speak louder than action.
If your weekend mood is "switch your brain off and laugh," then India's Got Latent is worth checking out. Created by comedian Samay Raina, the show has become an internet phenomenon thanks to its completely unpredictable humour, outrageous contestant performances and no-filter panel discussions.
Viewer discretion advised: The humour is unfiltered and contains strong language and adult content, so it's definitely intended for mature audiences.
If the weather is on your side, skip the couch for a few hours and experience one of Auckland's most spectacular coastal walks—, he Mercer Bay Loop Track in the Waitākere Ranges.
This isn't one of those hikes where you have to wait until the end for the reward.
The views begin almost immediately.
Within minutes you're walking along dramatic cliff tops overlooking the wild Tasman Sea, with waves crashing hundreds of metres below. On a clear day, the endless ocean seems to stretch forever, while the rugged coastline around Piha and Karekare unfolds in every direction. The track loops around Te Ahua, an important historic Māori pā site, adding cultural significance to an already unforgettable landscape.
Some hikes impress because they're physically demanding. Mercer Bay impresses because it constantly reminds you just how beautiful New Zealand is.
There's something incredibly peaceful about standing on those towering cliffs with nothing but ocean, wind and birds around you. Every few minutes you'll find yourself stopping—not because you're tired—but because another viewpoint demands a photo.
Unlike many long day hikes, Mercer Bay packs incredible scenery into a relatively short walk. At around 2.2 kilometres, it usually takes 45–60 minutes, making it perfect for families, couples, photographers or anyone wanting a quick escape from the city.
The track offers a beautiful mix of native bush, windswept coastal paths and panoramic viewpoints. It feels different around every corner. One moment you're surrounded by regenerating forest, and the next you're standing on dramatic cliffs with uninterrupted views of the west coast.
A few tips before you go
Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip.
Stay well back from cliff edges, especially on windy days.
Carry water, sunscreen and a jacket—the west coast weather can change quickly.
Clean your footwear at the kauri cleaning stations to help protect the precious native forest.
