Ever wondered what finding Wonka’s golden ticket in real life would be like? Well, we don’t need to use our imagination anymore, because it’s being turned into a reality game show.
Netflix has announced 'Wonka’s The Golden Ticket' is coming later this year - a show inspired by Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“Step into a world of pure imagination when the gates of the Chocolate Factory reopen,” the streaming platform wrote alongside a trailer showing the delicious-looking set.
“In this one-of-a-kind reality competition, lucky players step inside Wonka's Chocolate Factory to face unpredictable games, tests and temptations,” a synopsis for the show reads.
The trailer features some of the most iconic scenes from the Mel Stuart film. We’re talking about the giant golden gates, the chocolate river, the WonkaVision television, and even the Great Glass Elevator.
And narrating it all is a very familiar voice.
In the trailer, the late Gene Wilder’s voice can be heard - replicated by AI - saying, “For the first time in decades, I’m reopening my beloved chocolate factory. A whole new generation of real-life ticket holders will compete for a life-changing prize… or say a most unfortunate goodbye.”
Marvel at the magic you remember and delight in my newest wonders beyond imagination. The most extraordinary competition on Earth is about to begin.
"Adding to the nostalgia, ‘Wonka's The Golden Ticket’ will feature the recreated voice of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, honouring the legendary performance that has enchanted generations of audiences," Netflix said in a press release, confirming Wilder’s estate's consent to use his voice.
Fans of the original are loving the new concept, with one person writing: “OMG, my childhood dream.”
“I need to be on this series 😭😭😭,” said another.
A third added: “How do I sign up for season 2?!”
Honestly, it’s kind of giving ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’, but sweeter…
We can’t wait to see what else the factory is hiding when it drops on Netflix in September.
