Ruby Tui is heading to the Rugby World Cup, but this time she’ll be on the mic, not the wing.
The Black Ferns star has been signed by the BBC as a correspondent for the tournament in England which kicks off this Saturday.
After missing out on selection for New Zealand’s 2025 World Cup squad, this is Ruby's opportunity to get amongst the action - and cheer on our wāhine, too!
Sharing the news on Instagram, Tui posted a throwback clip of her 2021 interview with BBC’s Jill Douglas at the Tokyo Olympics, saying: “The universe, God’s plan, whatever you wanna call it I’m here for it 🤝🏽 Off to the @rugbyworldcup but just to be clear 🫣 with @bbcsport 👀😂”
In the video, she says the BBC is “kind of a big deal” and she's stoked to be joining their team.
“I’m part of a huge amazing, award-winning team and we’re about to run it back for you guys,” she added.
Commenters are buzzing for Tui, with Black Fern Sevens teammate Shiray Kaka writing: "Does this suprise anyone??? Na?????? Cos same 🤷♀️."
"Amazing! Lucky BBC to have you on their team! 😍🥹😍," Suzy Cato added.
Someone else added: "There is no end to @rubytui you are the gift that keeps on giving! Bringing the heat to the BBC 🔥."
The broadcaster described Tui as a “Black Ferns icon”, saying her “unparalleled insight and athletic experience promises to bring a powerful energy to the tournament.”
ICYMI - Ruby’s viral 2021 interview received a lot of attention for everything that we know and love about our sporting star - her unmatched personality, keeping it positive and real.
