A honeymoon is traditionally viewed as a private oasis for newlyweds—a chance to unwind, connect, and celebrate the start of a lifetime together away from the chaos of wedding planning. However, for one couple from India, the romantic getaway turned out to be the catalyst for the end of their marriage.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, a woman from the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh is legally seeking a divorce after her husband unexpectedly turned their private honeymoon into a full-blown family vacation.

An Unexpected Guest List

The couple, who originally met and matched through a matrimonial website, wed last year. Shortly after the nuptials, they packed their bags for what the bride assumed would be an intimate trip to the scenic hill station of Nainital.

The romantic illusion was shattered when they arrived, and the bride discovered that her husband’s parents, sister, and brother had all tagged along for the ride.

Instead of quiet evenings and couples' strolls, the bride found herself navigating a crowded family holiday. The Hindustan Times noted that details shared at a local family counseling center revealed the presence of the in-laws completely prevented the newlyweds from spending any quality, one-on-one time together.

Hospitality Mindset or Lack of Boundaries?

Upon returning home, the group trip became the source of relentless arguments. While the wife felt isolated and deprived of her honeymoon, the husband genuinely failed to see the issue.

Having studied hospitality management in Singapore, the husband reportedly explained to family counselors that he only brought his family along because he "wanted everyone to be happy." He firmly defended his actions, refusing to believe he had done anything wrong by including his parents and siblings.

The tipping point came when the couple began planning a second vacation—this time to Dubai. Hoping for a fresh start and a proper redo, the wife expected a trip exclusive to the two of them. Her hopes were dashed when the husband once again expressed a desire to bring his family along.

No Room for Compromise

As tensions boiled over, the domestic dispute eventually escalated to the local police station. Officers attempted to mediate the situation, but when the couple failed to reach any common ground, the matter was referred to a specialized Family Counselling Centre.

Counselors held three separate, intensive sessions with the husband and wife, hearing both sides individually in a desperate bid to save the marriage. Throughout the sessions, both parties hurled serious allegations at one another, neither willing to budge from their stance.

While the husband maintained he was just being a family-oriented man, the wife remained firm that boundaries had been fundamentally breached. Following the failed third round of counseling, the couple has decided to permanently part ways, proving that sometimes, five is definitely a crowd.
